Kasaragod: A boy lost his life in a tragic accident, when he drowned in a rivulet under the Kumbla police station limits on Saturday, October 13.

The deceased has been identified as Melwyn D’Souza (14), who is a resident of Dandegoli. Melwyn, a ninth standard student of Sheni Shri Sharadamba School, is the only son of Marcel D’Souza and Metilda D’Souza.

The incident occurred when, on Saturday, Melwyn and two of his friends had gone to have a bath at the Shiriya Bajpe Uluvaru rivulet.

As per sources, Melwyn had gone to the rivulet with his friends in the afternoon, and when he did not return in the evening, his worried parents enquired with his friends about what had happened. It is then that the incident came to light.

Immediately, some locals, fire service personnel, police and fishermen began a search for Melwyn’s body, which was found later that night near a rivulet near Kumbla.

After conducting a post-mortem at the Kasargod general hospital, the body was handed over to the boy’s family and his funeral was held on Sunday, October 14, at Mother of Sorrows Church, Bela.
