Belthangady: Full-fledged swimming pool which can host major national and international events was thrown open to public on October 12 in Belthangady.
The pool officially inaugurated on December 18, 2015 by the then minister of sports Abhayachandra Jain in the presence of Dr.Veerendra Hegde and district in charge minister Ramanath Rai was not thrown to open public as few works were pending.
The swimming pool built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores with 97 lakh UGC grant has 10 tracks with dimension of 50 meter length and 25 meter width.It has all the amenities for youth to excel in swimming.
The pool ranks first in the district and 3rd in the state is designed and developed with the assistance of PU Bopanna of water pepper pools, Bengaluru and the project was closely monitored by Harshendra kumar brother of Dr.Veerendra Hegde.
The pool will be open from 6am to 8.45 am in the morning and 3 to 6.45pm in the evening for public with a daily user fee of Rs 50. Monthly usage charges will be Rs 500 for public and 350 for associations where four batches of people can avail the benefits. It has all the amenities including change rooms providing youth an opportunity to excel in swimming
After throwing the pool open to public on Mahanavami day, Ujire sport complex will be also be thrown open to public for supporting indoor and outdoor sporting activities, said Dharmastala Shreyas Kumar.
The function was presided by SDM group institutions secretary Dr.B Yashovarma who said, swimming helps one maintain body fitness and helps in body weight reduction. He said women too will be encouraged to take part in cricket, tennis and basket ball events and opportunities for those sporting activities will be provided, he clarified.
