Mangaluru: Snehalaya Charitable Trust arranged for the renovation of the house of Nonayya Poojary at Maddadka, Belathagady Taluk, and was handed it over to him by the youth Icon Shri Harish Poonja, MLA, Belthangady Constituency, in a simple ceremony held at 9.30 am on 14th July 2020.

The house of Mr. Nonayya Poojary was noticed by the Snehalaya CIVID 19 volunteering team. Mr. Nonayya Poojary is around 68 years, is suffering from high diabetes, with gangrene on his foot. He has a daughter, who is deaf & dumb. They were living in a house with an almost collapsed roof.

With the encouragement of the local leader Mr. Prabhakar Shetty Uppadka, former Taluk Panchayath President, the Snehalaya team was inspired to take up the work after coming to the conclusion, that there is a genuine need for support to the family.

With the support of kind-hearted donors, the renovation work was completed in just 45 days, using steel frames for roof, tiles, plastering, and fixing doors and windows.

Harish Poonja, Belthangady MLA handed over the house to Nonayya Poojary, symbolically with an encrypted portrait “There is a reason to smile- A home by Snehalaya”.

Through this beautiful message, Mr. Poonja appreciated the social concern of Snehalaya and said that everyone has a special incident in life, to be motivated to do social work. Mr. Joseph Crasta, Managing Trustee of Snehalaya was inspired by seeing a lady, drinking water from drainage.

There is a lot of happiness in doing such exemplary work by giving back something to society. Mr. Harish Poonja mentioned that Snehalaya has done praiseworthy work of providing housing to Nonanyya in his constituency and he admired the commitment of Snehalaya. He assured the organization of his support and good wishes. He also gave a call to continue more such activities in this area.

Prabhakara Shetty Uppadka explained the plight of this family, the fear of those living in the house as they had almost lost all hopes in life. At this juncture, God’s own angels through Snehalaya came for the rescue and we have a beautiful house and there is a smile on every face. This is an indication of happiness.

Joel Mendonca, Taluk Panchayath Member, the unit head of Snehalaya Santhosh D Souza, chief advisor of Snehalaya, Geo D Silva, and the trustees of Snehalaya were present during the inauguration.

Geo D Silva compered the event with a welcome note and introductory remarks. He gave a gist of the journey of Snehalaya during the past 10 years.

Joseph Crasta spoke on this occasion and said, a humble start during the lockdown, initiated by Snehalaya has led us into taking up more service activities and especially housing for the neediest, and this is an example among such programs.

We were moved by Nonannya’s living conditions. And there was a great support of our kind-hearted donors. Without their help, support, and guidance, we would not be able to complete this house. At present we have 5 more projects going on and all are in the completion stages. Mr. Joseph Crasta thanked all the donors and everyone who supported the mission.
