Belthangady: Son accused for murdering father convicted

Mangaluru: The Fourth District and Sessions Court on Thursday March 31 has convicted a youth in connection with his father’s murder in January 2021. The punishment will be pronounced during the next hearing.

The convict is Harish Poojary (28) who had assaulted his father Sridhar Poojary (56), a resident of Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada District using a wooden log following a verbal altercation.

As per the police chargesheet, Sridhar had opposed Harish’s relationship with a girl belonging to another caste. And also had asked Harish to wait until his sister gets married before he ties the knot. However, he eloped with his lover and returned home after about three weeks while his father refused entry home.

On January 18, father and son had verbal spat and Harish threatened to kill his father. Later in the day, Harish assaulted his father due to which father, Sridhar was seriously injured and died on the spot. A case was registered by Belthangady Police and a chargesheet filed.
