Mangaluru: To mark the 60th birthday of entrepreneur K Prakash Shetty, a total of 60 physically-challenged persons were gifted Rs 1 lakh each and several meritorious students were awarded scholarships worth Rs 10,000 each, at the ‘Gold Finch City’ plot in Bangra Kuloor on Thursday, December 19.
These beneficiaries were selected by a committee led by Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva.
Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Shetty said that has been helping the needy through various organisations for two decades so far. “Today, however, I am giving financial aid directly. Because of the importance of education in one’s life, I decided to disburse scholarship to meritorious students,” he said.
“I have decided to help the needy every year through the Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva for a sum of Rs 1 crore,” he added.
The programme was organised by the “Prakashabhinandana” felicitation committee, which will also be organising a grand birthday celebration for the entrepreneur at the same venue on December 25. This programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.
Felicitation committee president Suresh Shetty Gurme welcomed the gathering. Adyar Purushothama Bhandary delivered the introductory speech. Santhosh Shetty proposed a vote of thanks. Nitheesh Shetty Ekkar compered the programme.
