BJP taking credit for Cong’s work to secure votes: Vinay Kumar Sorake

Mangaluru: “The BJP is trying to secure power in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) through wrong means as it is claiming the Congress administration’s developmental works as their own,” said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on Friday, November 8.

Addressing the reporters at the district Congress office, Sorake said, “The Congress was voted to power for five terms out of a total of six terms and has undertaken several developmental projects in the city. The people only elected the BJP for a single term, however, they are taking credit for the developmental works in several sectors like education, health, banking etc, undertaken during the Congress administration, just to secure the support of voters,” he alleged.

“Earlier, the BJP leaders alleged that there was no security for women under the Congress government. Even though the BJP has formed the government, there have been three rapes in Puttur, where the accused are allegedly attached to the ABVP. A youth was brutally hacked to death during the Ganeshotsava programme in Puttur recently, and according to the police, the key accused is from the ABVP. These incidents show that there is no security for anybody under the BJP government,” he said.

‘No one will trust Nalin’s words’

Coming down heavily on MP and state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Ivan D’Souza said that as the former was unable to complete the flyover in Pumpwell even after 10 years, he has no moral right to seek the public’s support. “Even though Nalin is seeking votes for the BJP candidates, no one will trust his words as his contribution to our district is a big ‘zero’. For how many more years should the people wait for the completion of the flyover and railway overbridge (ROB) at Mahakali Padpu?” he asked.

District Congress president Hareesh Kumar, former MLA Shakunthala Shetty, Kareem, Shubhodaya Alva and others were present.
