BJP threatens to stage dharna at MCC for Mayor’s comment

Mangaluru: The coporators of the BJP in the MCC took on the Mayor for her comment “Don’t act like you are market”, following their protest in well of the session, which created a tensed situation that lasted for few minutes.
The incident took place during the MCC’s monthly session for October when the corporators repeatedly kept on pressuring the Mayor to give ruling on the officials for not doing their duty and bringing a negative name to MCC.

Congress corporator raised the issue by questioning the accounts officers on why and by which law has the public tax money been kept as FD in various banks, to which the corporators sought a detailed answer. She also claimed that Rs 27cr public tax money been kept as FD and when asked for development works, the officers turn down her request by saying shortage of funds.

The accounts officer was asked to give details on the FDs, but the corporators did not seem happy with the details given and asked Mayor to suspend such officers for creating irregularities and not providing fund for MCC works.
She asked “when there is money in banks, why are the officers not doing the payments tender contractors and other MCC development works.”

When the discussion on this hyped the Mayor intervened on the request of all corporators and ordered the account s officers to submit all files related to money and promised the members that a detailed study will be conducted and the report will be given in next month session.

Mangalore One
Few corporators from the Congress raised serious concern over the irregularities in the Mangalore one and the transfer of funds collected from the public and also asked on whether the investigation will be taken regarding this matter or not. A member sought a clarification from the MCC commissioner regarding the payment, on who’s name shall the public the cheque or DD in favour of. To which the Commissioner replied saying, according to law it should be drawn in favour of Commissioner, but till date its drawn in favour of Mangalore One, and said he will look into the matter and come to a final decision soon.

Sudhir Shetty, opposition leader said the session that as Mangaluru is gearing up for the SMART city tag, there is very much need to construct a SMART bus stand for the convenience of general public and the bus operators, and asked the Mayor under which Phase of MCC development funds the funds for bus stand is allotted and requested to start the work soon.

Opposition member raised a question with regard to the constructing foot paths and drainage in city where the new concrete roads have come up, and said if under the development fund when Rs 2.4crgrants is sanctioned for it, why a tender of Rs 45 lakh has been called. To which the Urban development committee president Deepak Poojary answer saying, ”We had called tender for Rs 2.5 cr works, but none turn out, so we had to call a revised tender, in which we will take a piece of work with a small budget and a specific region where foot paths and drainage are to be constructed.”
