Mangaluru: “The BJP Special Executive Committee meeting held in the city made no contributions for Dakshina Kannada or any other part of Karnataka,” said Congress leader and Mangaluru MLA U T Khader.

“The people expected many resolutions to be discussed and passed during the meeting regarding serious issues like unemployment, prevention of Covid-19, education, food and health. Yet, all that was discussed were the issues of cow slaughter, love jihad, drug trafficking etc.,” he told the media on Friday, November 6.

Pointing out to the fact that the BJP did not discuss prominent issues such as sand mafia, introduction of Tulu in the eighth schedule of the Constitution and the renaming of the Mangaluru International Airport after Koti-Chennayya, Khader said that this is proof that special meeting was not useful for people.

“What was the need to host the meeting in Mangaluru after two decades, just to discuss BJP party’s internal issues?” he questioned, accusing the BJP of holding the meeting as a diversion tactic. “Wait and see, the people will show their answer in the upcoming Gram Panchayat elections,” he warned.

Speaking further, Khader said, “It seems like the government is making the wrong decisions without proper planning. Just a few weeks ago, the government invited applications for licences for the sale of fireworks. Now, it is taking a U-turn by banning fireworks during Diwali. There is complete confusion in decision making.”

Reacting to the government’s proposal to introduce a new law to curb religious conversions for marriage, the Congress leader said, “If the government plans to bring such a law, let them do it honestly so that is useful. BJP leaders have made different statements regarding the issue, but the people are still confused. If they are implementing the law with good intention, let them go ahead and do it. We have no problem with that.”

Representatives of the Dakshina Kannada Congress Party former MLA J R Lobo, district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, Corporator A C Vinayaraj, and Women Congress member Shalet Pinto, and others were present.
