Boats caught fire: 40 lacs loss estimated

Mangalore: In a terrible incident four boats including a small boat caught fire at Padukere, Malpe on Tuesday December 17.

The boats belonging to a group of 45 fishermen has caused an estimated loss of Rs 40 lac. The boats were anchored on shore, were covered with plastic sheets as they were out of use because of a ban that does allow doing fishing by country boats.

As per the sources it is known that the boats that were anchored at the shore caught fire due a short circuit from a nearby transformer.

When the locals noticed the fire they called up the fire brigade officials and the situation was brought under control.

Members of fishermen associations, district officials and local were present at the spot. The Malpe police also visited the spot.
