Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyas Kamath said on Tuesday November 2 that several works linked to the Smart City project had begun at a cost of Rs. 3 crore and come 2024 – 25, the City’s look will be completely different.
He was speaking after presiding over a gathering at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Townhall in the City to lay the foundation for works worth Rs. 90 crore.
“The Amrith project, Smart City, Jalasiri project (worth R.s 792 crore), gas pipeline, and ADB drainage scheme are being implemented. Mangaluru has received the highest grant in comparison to other cities in the State,” said Kamath.
“When Yediyurappa was Chief Minister, a Rs. 100 crore grant was issued. A new grant is now given under Smart City. Various projects are being undertaken with the active participation of the people,” said Mayor Premananda Shetty.
BJP State MP Nalin Kumar Kateel laid the groundwork foundation for an indoor kabaddi and badminton stadium near Urwa Market worth Rs. 20.54 crore and a multilevel vehicle parking complex near the old bus stand in Hampankatta worth Rs. 70 crore.
“”Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a strong vision of bringing changes in the country and to make India reach globally. He had a vision to make every city compete with cities in America, therefore the Smart City concept was formed. I thank Modi for including Mangaluru as one of the cities under Smart City and for allocating Rs. 500 crore to the project,” he said.
Kateel further said that the students must utilise the stadium for badminton and swimming. “Modi is the Prime Minister who promotes all athletes at the Olympics, regardless of whether they win or lose. Mangaluru has made remarkable progress in Smart City development.”
“When Mangaluru was not included in the first round of Smart City work, I received a lot of criticism. The members who had criticised me did not speak when it was included in the second round. Under Smart City, two significant projects have now begun in Urwa and Hampankatta,” he added.
Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Chief Whip of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), President of the Fisheries Development Board Nitin Kumar, KEONICS President Harikrishna Bantwal, MUDA President Ravishankar Mijar, and MCC members Poornima, Lohith Amin, Divakar, Lokesh Bollaje, Sandeep Garodi and Prashant Kumar Mishra, MD of Mangaluru Smart City Limited were present at the event.
