Mangaluru: According to the sources, buses from Karnataka and Kerala are unlikely to operate in each other’s jurisdiction for at least a week. This is due to Kerala’s unsatisfactory Covid – 19 situation.
As per the messages circulated on social media sites, buses between the City and Kasaragod may begin service as early as November 1. However, the Dakshina Kannada District Administration has stated that bus service between the two states will not begin for at least a week.
Kerala has Covid positivity rate between 10 to 14 per cent, with Kasaragod having a slightly better situation. The positivity rate in Dakshina Kannada stands between 0.4 and 0.45 per cent.
Officials from the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation stated that they are ready to run buses to Karnataka, but they are now unable to do so due to a prohibition on their vehicles entering the State.
Dr. Rajendra K. V., Dakshina Kannada District Deputy Commissioner informed that inter-state buses to Kerala could not be resumed till the positive rate falls below 5 per cent. He stated that, a suitable decision will be made depending on the situation after a week.
