Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath informed that the Car Street road would be converted into a ‘Heritage Walk’ under the smart city project and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) would be submitted in this regard on December 25.
Addressing the reporters here on Tuesday, December 17, Kamath said, “As the Car Street road connects several temples in the area, a heritage touch will be given to the road. In order to pave the way for a smooth flow of traffic, measures will be taken to set up a proper footpath and car parking facility in Car Street.”
Meanwhile, Kamath informed that Rs 45 crores has been sanctioned under the smart city project to provide basic infrastructure for the Wenlock Hospital. A DPR has been submitted in this regard on December 13. An indoor stadium will be set up near the Radhakrishna Mandir in Urwa at the cost of Rs 35 crores. In order to develop the Mangala Stadium, Rs 10 crores has been earmarked. Besides that, a swimming pool, tennis court, basketball and volleyball grounds will be developed at the cost of Rs 180 crores, he informed.
Kamath also said that many development works under smart city project are underway and measures will be taken to speed up the work by convening a meeting with both the concerned officials.
