Mangaluru: Charmadi Ghat will be closed down for heavy vehicles, owing to repair works. With this, the ghats will be open only for light vehicles such as cars, mini tempos etc. Surprisingly, even mini buses will be allowed to ply on this stretch this time.
Buses, tankers, lorries etc will have been banned till next orders. These vehicles will have to take the alternate route of Karkala-Samse,-Kudremukh to join Shiradi Ghat.
The ghat was severely damaged due to the heavy rains this year and hence the ghat was closed for vehicular movement in August, 2019.
Deputy Commissioner Bagadi Gautam, in his order dated December 26 has said that the curbs have been relaxed and the decision has been taken following a report from Executive Engineer of the National Highway division.
