Mangaluru: Chief of Mangaluru city police, M Chandra Sekhar has indicated that the volunteers were welcome to assist the police during the eleven days of Dasara Festivities starting from 1 October. He gave a call to the organizers of Dasara festivities in the city to deploy their volunteers and ask them to maintain order, always be courteous to the visitors and guide them to follow the order in heavily crowded places during the festivities.
Making this appeal during his inaugural speech, Chandra Sekhar said that Mangluru is known to celebrate Dasara in a very beautiful and disciplined manner over the years. “To assist visitors and devotees, the Mangaluru city police have deployed 800 policemen and 350 homeguards this year to ensure smooth conduct of crowd movement. The people of Mangaluru were well mannered in the past and there would not be any problems during the festivities.”
Harikrishna Buntwal, one of the head trustees of the temple stated, “Nine kilometers of roads in Mangaluru city has been decorated with lights, fresh coat of paint on road dividers and by sprucing up the public places with co-operation from the public using 21 lakh bulbs for the serial lights, 11 lakh LED lights and 10 lakh bulbs for illuminating the city. This is the biggest ever illumination design on the coast if not in the state. The grand Dasara procession will begin at 4 PM on 11 October and will culminate at 7 AM next morning.”
“We expect over 20 lakh people to visit the temple and about 10 lakh people to witness the procession which is also incidentally the biggest crowd in the state for Dasara festivities” he added.
Other trustees who were present on the occasion of the inauguration included Sairam and leaders from Billava community.
