Co-operative bank loot kingpin arrested

Kasaragod: The prime accused in a bank heist that took place at the Eiyal branch of Kudlu Service Co-operative Bank was arrested at Ernakulam here on Sunday, October 25.

The arrested is Mujeeb, a resident of Bandyod. On September 7 this year, a total of 21 kgs of gold and cash amounting to Rs 13 lakh was looted in broad daylight from the said bank. Mujeeb had allegedly managed to escape from the police.

According to reports, Mujeeb had gone underground and was planning to apply for anticipatory bail. However, the police based on a tip-off, rushed to his hideout place and arrested him.

With Mujeeb’s arrest, the number of arrested persons in this case has risen to six. The other arrested are Shariff, Karim, Muhammed Sabil, Abdul Mashook and Shahnawaz. Gold weighing 7.150kgs had been recovered during their arrest.

Two more persons are yet to be nabbed, police sources said.
