New Mangalore: Inspector General Manoj Vasant Baadkar, Tatrakshak Medal on taking over Command of Coast Guard Region (West) was on a maiden visit to Coast Guard Headquarters, Karnataka at New Mangalore on Oct 15, 22.
During the visit, the Commander Coast Guard took stock of the operational readiness of Coast Guard assets and reviewed the progress of infrastructure development at New Mangalore, including the upcoming State of Art Indian Coast Guard Academy Project at Kenjur Village. In the course of the visit, the Regional Commander interacted with the local dignitaries and stakeholders including Fisheries Association leaders and fishing boat owners of all three districts of Karnataka.
The meeting with fisheries authorities was aimed towards reposing trust and confidence among fishermen that they can pursue their livelihood activity without any fear, as Coast Guard has always provided prompt SAR services during any distress situations at sea. The Regional Commander also urged the fisheries association to adhere to promulgated safety guidelines and ensure compliance wrt instructions as imparted during various Community Interaction Programmes (CIPs). The fishermen were encouraged to be among the first responders at sea.
The Inspector General earlier in 2006-2008 was head of the ICG for the maritime state of Karnataka and is presently responsible for ICG operation in the western region for the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep Islands.
