Congress activist arrested; Accused of torching AAP candidates home

Kasargod: Block Panchayat member and Congress activist Anwar Mangad (36) has been arrested by the Hosdurg police, after accusing him of conspiring to torch the house of a candidate, who had fought local body election as a candidate of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at Uduma Mangad in the district.

Four persons who have been charged with direct involvement in this crime had been detained a few days ago.

Anwar was arrested on the basis of information provided by the four others accused.

On November 11, the house of the AAP candidate was burnt down by miscreants. The candidate, Ibrahim, was blamed for the defeat of a Congress candidate in the local bodies’ election.

The incident took place when Ibrahim and his family were out visiting a relative. As a result, Ibrahim had suffered a loss of about Rs 20 lac.
