Mangaluru: The satisfying victory in the recently held Zilla/Taluk Panchayat polls clearly indicates the consent of the public over Siddaramaiah led Congress government in the State, MLC Ivan D’Souza said on Thursday, Friday 25.

He said that though the Siddaramaiah government had a lot of pro-people projects, not many could be implemented due to the poll code conduct owing to 6-7 elections during the past two-and-a-half-year tenure adding that the remaining tenure will be fully utilized to implement all those pending schemes.

Speaking about the results in the district, he said that the result has not been disappointing, however he agreed that the party expected more. “Though we have not won in the district, our performance has certainly improved compared to the previous Zilla/Taluk Panchayat election. We had won 11 seats in 2011 polls, but this time we have won 15 seats,” he said.

As many as 3,46,362 voters in the district casted their franchise on the Congress while 3,48,056 voters polled their votes in favour of the BJP, which fetched the latter 1,694 more votes than the Congress.

He said that issues such as the 9/11, Kumki and Yettinahole that they inherited from the BJP worked against the Congress. “We will assess our weak links and will work on them,” he said adding that the Congress will come out stronger in the 2018 Vidhana
Sabha polls.

Taluk wise statstics of votes secured by the Congress and the BJP are as follows
