Mangalore: The ruling Congress has been trying to be critical of the police department over the issue of the killing of a Jokatte youth named Kabeer by the ANF sleuths at Shringeri.
The Congress leaders convened a press meet at the District Congress Committee office to condemn the incident on Monday April 21.
Congress leader, Janardhana Poojary urged the state government to hand over the case to the CBI; however few hours later in an another press meet the District-in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai stated that a CBI investigation may not be considered and the case will be given to CID department.
While Ramanath Rai considered a CID probe, Poojary criticized the indifference of the state government and said that the case should be given to CBI.
Poojary also expressed resentment over the state home minister, K J George and declared that he has made people to consider him as one of the weakest ministers in the cabinet. He should entrust the case to the CBI, as people have no faith in the CID investigation, said Poojary.
He also went on to the extent questioning as to whether the department and the home minister are intentionally trying to malign the reputation of chief minister, Siddaramaiah, who excelled in providing an able administration in the state.
He demanded CBI probe into the issue to strengthen the trust among people in the government.
Sarcastically on the other hand, Ramanatha Rai said that he will be meeting CM Siddaramaiah as well as the home minister personally and also consider announcing a raise in the compensation announced to Kabeer’s family.
When questioned, with regards to the suspension of any officer Rai said, “It is just two days and after a proper investigation the guilty will be duly punished.”
However, both the leaders urged for an unbiased probe into the incident that has aroused communal sentiments.
