Special team formed to nab rapists : IGP Pratap Reddy

Udupi : Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has informed that an eight member police team led by Udupi SP Dr Boralingaiah has been formed  to investigate into the case of alleged gang rape of a medical student at Manipal on Thursday.

Addressing a press meet here on June 22, Saturday, the IGP said the police department has taken the case seriously and hoped that the culprits would soon be tracked down.

The IGP said the special team would try to elicit information from the rape victim after duly taking into consideration her mental and physical condition and added even the doctors attending on her would be met.

Hinting that the department has already gathered some clues regarding the rapists, the IGP however declined to divulge details pertaining to the place where the crime took place. He said any such information that is divulged would come in the way of investigation.

The IGP stated that State Home Minister KJ George will be  visiting Udupi on June 23 and 24 and discuss the issue and also the measures that need to be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

Udupi District Superintendent of Police Dr Boralingaiah was also present.
