Continued plastic use, MCC to fine commercial vendors

Mangaluru: Health Inspectors have been directed to seize plastic goods and issue fines for violation of ban on of one-time-use plastic products by commercial vendors.

According to notification No. FEW 17 IPC 2012 , Bangalore issued by the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Wildlife on March 11, 2016, and as per the order of National Green Tribunal, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) had issued a ban of one-time-use plastic products. However, now it has been brought to the notice of MCC that the orders are being violated by commercial vendors.

In case of violation, the vendors will be fined ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 10,000 along with being booked under Section 19 of the 1986 Environmental (Conservation) Act. Also, their trading licence will stand cancelled.

Clearance drive from May 7

Mangaluru City Corporation will also conduct a clearance drive of unauthorised Fast Food Vendors from Saturday May 7 on the basis of complaints received from multiple sources. MCC Commissioner in a media release has urged vendors to hereby vacate immediately or face due consequences.
