Mangaluru: Opposition party leader in the Legislative Council Kota Srinivas Poojary has promised to raise the issues of lorry owners during the Council session and take all necessary measures to relax the rigid guidelines.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Federation of Lorry Owners Association at Town Hall on Monday, November 19. He said, “The government has initiated stringent action against the lorry owners after the Deputy Commissioner of Tumkur district was hit by a lorry. But, such stringent measures have caused problems to the honest lorry owners and drivers of Dakshina Kannada district also. I will raise this issue in the Council”, he said.
MLC Ivan D’Souza after releasing the logo and ID of the federation said, “Though the district administration needs to identify the sand blocks and allow mining, it has not been done so far. Due to this, sand miners and those who indirectly depend on mining including lorry drivers and owners are left jobless. I too will raise this issue in Council so as to ease the life of lorry owners and drivers”, he said.
The programme was presided over by Federation President N Jairaj Shetty. MLA Rajesh Naik, MLC Harish Kumar, former minister Krishna J Palemar, Mangaluru Taluk Panchayat President Mohammed Monu, Karkala Lorry Owners Association Honorary President Uday Kumar Hegde among others were present.
