Mangaluru: “If society and its administrative system fail to utilise the demography in a positive note, then it is dangerous to the country,” opined BJP national general secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh on Saturday, November 30.

He was addressing the gathering during the session “New India: Demography Dividend or Danger?” organised as part of the ‘Lit Fest’ at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre. Santhosh said, “There is no doubt that the increasing population will have a negative affect on the welfare of the country. However, if we are able to provide adequate education and employment, that population will be converted into dividend for the country. If not, it will certainly hamper to the progress of the country.”

Quoting China as an example, Santhosh said, “Even though China has a large population for its geographical area, it has achieved an all-round development. India, however, is lagging behind compared to a developing country like China. Those who are pursuing graduation in technology are not able to be independent in producing technical goods as our education system gives more importance to theory rather than practicality. Because of this, educated people become jobless as they are unable to get hired by any company. If we are not able to create jobs for our highly educated people, then demography turns into a danger to the country.”

Meanwhile, Santhosh informed that the Central Government’s ‘Skill India’ and ‘Make in India’ concepts are slowly getting positive results.
