Mangaluru: Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxists) staged a protest in front of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Monday alleging that the ruling Congress in the corporation council has not been able to provide good administration.
Addressing a gathering in the city, Sunil Kumar Bajal, secretary of the city unit of the party, said, “Irrespective of our several agitations the plight of the residents of this city has been fallen into deaf years”.
“The BJP government has ruled for five years in the State and not brought development whereas the congress government has been ruling for 25 years still the city lacks basic amenities”, he added.
He also spoke about empty promises that ministers engage in making and said that during elections, ministers from both congress as well as BJP promised that there will be deduction in tax, but today people are liable to pay tax on garbage also. “The garbage itself is a crore rupee industry and these money greedy officers are trying to loot us with that as well”, he said.
Nonetheless, even issues with the Corporation are chaotic, the MCC does not have a proper commissioner appointed or is always transferred due to differences with the Corporation itself, if they cannot regulate a Corporation how will they regulate the city, he questioned.
He further called the MCC officers as the agents of congress and alleged that the development works in the city had come to a standstill.
Dayananda Shetty, the party councillor, CPI(M) District Secretariat Members Vasantha Achari, Dalits’ Right (CSDR) District Convenor Krishnappa Konchady, CPI(M) District secretary Balakrishna Shetty, DYFI State Vice President Muneer Katipalla, Jayanthi Shetty and other were present.
