Mangaluru: The curfew in Mangaluru went into the second day on Saturday, December 21. Most of the city remained quiet and peaceful and the curfew was relaxed between 6 AM and 8 AM to allow people to go out and buy groceries.
In the city, all the shops remain closed and not a single bus was to be seen. Only the market were open in the morning for people to buy groceries.
Later, when the curfew came back in full force, police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowds that had formed to purchase groceries.
Speaking to a news channel, a local said that the police had relaxed the curfew for a few hours for the people to buy groceries. He said that the city was peaceful and that there was no commotion anywhere.
As of yesterday’s intimation, the curfew will continue till December 22.
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa will arrive in Mnaglauru today to assess the situation. He will hold a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner and top police officials at the Circuit House.
