Mangaluru: A man from Mangaluru has been allegedly duped of Rs. 2.92 lakh by a person who promised to assist him in the construction of a house.

The victim has filed a complaint with the cybercrime, economic offences, and narcotics police station here.

On September 20, 2021, a person contacted the complainant through WhatsApp and lured him with a gift and the promise of assisting in the construction of a house.

Two weeks later, the man called to tell him that his gift had arrived in Delhi and that he needed to pay Rs. 35,000 to have it shipped to Mangaluru. The complainant believed the man had transferred the money to him through Gpay.

According to sources, the caller contacted him twice and further extracted Rs. 2.57 lakhs from the complainant.

Later, the victim realised he had been duped and filed a complaint with the City police.
