Mangaluru: A vegetable vendor in Uppinangady has been saved from losing money to a cyber fraud due to the timely intervention of a Gram Panchayat member.
According to sources, a man named Aman called the vendor posing as an Army officer asking if he could supply vegetables for an army camp. He said that an army camp had been set up about 5 km from Uppinangady. He asked if the vendor could provide the camp with vegetables on a daily basis, and when he said yes, he sent him the grocery list.
The caller informed the vendor that he would send a vehicle to collect the vegetable, and that payment would be made directly to his bank account. The vendor gave the man his bank account information without questioning his intentions.
After a while, the caller asked to share the OTP received on his phone. When a Gram Panchayat member noticed this, he stopped the vendor from sharing information.
