Dakshina Kannada: Heavy rains in the region, orange alert sounded

Mangaluru: Heavy rains lash Dakshina Kannada District with Orange alert being issued for Thursday June 30. Nantoor – Padil stretch, Malemar, Jokatte, Kottara Chowki areas in the City experienced floods and traffic blocks as a resultant.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K. V. has directed the Education Department officials to keep an alert on school children under their respective jurisdiction. In case of difficulty to travel to the school, it has been instructed to declare a holiday. Also, for students who have already reached school, it has been instructed to take classes.

The last-minute decision has caused inconvenience for both parents and students. This is the second time the District Administration has delayed making a decision. “My son too is coming back due to road block towards his school,” said a parent.

Owing to heavy rains, landslide has occurred near Maravoor bridge.

Strict instructions to act with caution has been given.
