Mangaluru: The confusion related to holidays for schools in Dakshina Kannada District has finally come to an end. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K. V. has declared holiday for all the educational institutions in the District.
Dr. Rajendra stated that India Meteorological Department has given orange alert till 8.30 am of Friday July 1 for Dakshina Kannada with 40 mm rainfall predicted and District Disaster Managemnt Authority (DDMA) too is anticipating abnormally high rains tomorrow, Friday June 30. Hence, considering the larger public interest, DDMA has decided to declare holiday on Friday to all the Anganwadi centres, schools, pre-university and degree colleges of Dakshina Kannada.
It can be recalled here that the District Administration has received flak, earlier, for not declaring holiday well before time, despite IMD alert of rains including the chaos that happened today, Thursday June 30 with schools functioning as usual despite heavy rains. Only higher educational institutions got a holiday. The parents too were irked as their children had to face difficulties while commuting due to heavy rains.
Meanwhile Udupi District too has declared a holiday for educational institutions.
