Mangaluru: Minister for Food, civil supplies, and consumer affairs, Umesh Katti organized a meeting, following the proposal to provide boiled (red) rice under the PDS in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts here on Thursday, May 27.
It was decided at the meeting to send a request to the union government, urging them to sanction the purchase of MO 4, Jaya, Abhilasha, Bhadra Kaje, and Jyoti paddy varieties in order to meet demand.
District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “to meet the demand for boiled rice in both districts, 20 quintals of paddy are required. It was also determined at the meeting to buy paddy from the districts of Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Belagavi. Following approval from the union government, steps will be taken to begin supplying boiled rice to the public through the PDS system in November, with rice procured from local rice mills.”
