Mangaluru: Dalita Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) state convener Mavalli Shankar has urged the government to provide DC (Depressed Class) Manna land to Dalits, claiming that over thousand acres of land have been encroached by the upper-classes in Dakshina Kannada district.
Addressing reporters at NGO Hall in Hampanakatta on Sunday, December 2, Mavalli Shankar said, though the DC Manna land is meant for Dalit community, no efforts have been made so far to allocate such land to Dalits. “Thousands of Dalits in Dakshina Kannada district are homeless and they have been running pillar to post to receive land from the government. Hence, proper measures should be taken immediately to provide land to them“, he said.
Shankar said,“ deliberate attempts have been made to deny DC Manna land to Dalits. The DCs of DK district who attempted to provide DC Manna land to Dalits were transferred quickly from the district.“
Meanwhile, Mavalli Shankar informed that over 250 Dalits from Dakshina Kannada district are taking part in a programme at Devanahalli in Bengaluru on December 8, where 62nd death anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar will be organised. Various issues like reservation Bill, anti-constitutional activities of Central government will be discussed during the programme, he added.
Dalit leaders like Chandu L, B K Vasanth, Jagadeesh Pandeshwar among others were present.
