Mangaluru: The All India Catholic Union (AICU), which represents the catholic laity of India through 171 diocesan units nationwide on Friday, took on Modi-led NDA government urging not to impose policies that erode national unity, target religious and ethnic minorities and impact on economic growth.
During a press meet held at Shanti Kiran, past national president of AICU Dr John Dayal criticised Modi government and said that the uniform civil code, saffronised new education policy have no national consensus.
Lashing out at the central government for its recent demonetisation, Dayal said that the unplanned implementation of the currency ban has brought untold suffering to the poor, the farmers and wage earners. “The manner in which demonetisation has been passed, it has left people jobless, farmers seedless,” he opined.
Other than demonetisation, uniform civil code and saffronisation of the education policy, Dayal demanded justice for Kandhamal, Dalit Christians and Christian tribals.
