Mangaluru: The district Wenlock Hospital, which is a designated COVID hospital in Dakshina Kannada district, will soon resume its inpatient services, informed Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
Addressing a meeting organized to review COVID-19 cases in DK district the minister said, “After the district, Wenlock Hospital was turned into a COVID-19 hospital after the outbreak of Covid-19, patients who were receiving treatment for other illnesses as inpatients and outpatients had to face many problems. As there had been several demands from the public to resume Out Patient Department (OPD) services, the district administration resumed its OPD services recently. After this, over 250 people have been receiving OPD services. As there is also a demand to resume its inpatient services, there is a plan to provide inpatient services for at least 100 patients.”
The District Health and Family Welfare Department officer Dr. Ramachandra Bayari said that medical college hospitals have already come forward to treat COVID-19 patients. A total of 800 beds are available for treating COVID-19 patients, he informed
Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has informed that if a COVID-19 patient wants to receive treatment at a private hospital, they can do so. But, they should pay for the treatment. Those who receive treatment under the Ayushman Bharath scheme should be recommended for such treatment by the district health and family welfare department.
