Puttur: In a joint operation, the fire force personnel along with divers from local community managed to pull out the body of an engineering student, who drowned in Kumaradhara river near Katara Andhrigeri, when strong river currents swept him away on November 22.

Hemanth, a final year engineering student of Vivekananda College drowned in the waters swimming, while four of his friends managed to reach ashore safely after they ventured into the waters of Kumaradhara river.

After the attempts to retrieve the body of the deceased student failed to yield results last evening, fire force personnel along with divers from local community resumed operations to trace the body this morning. They managed to pull it out by noon from the river, near Katara Andhrigeri of Bellippadi Darandakukku village. The body of Hemanth stuck beneath the rocks resulted in the delay and posed several problems to the rescue team.

His college mates Avinash, a resident of Bannur, Shreyas of Thokkottu, Mokshith of Subramanya and Mohammed Irshad managed to survive.
