Mangaluru: The District Administration has planned to hold the ‘Netravati-Phalguni’ Jodukere Kambala every weekend throughout the year at Pilikula Guttu House. However, only a certain number of buffalo pairs will be permitted to compete.
According to the sources, the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner proposed this to officials from the District Tourism Development Committee and the District Kambala Committee at a meeting held, recently. A plan in this regard has been requested from the Tourism Department and the Pilikula Development Authority.
The Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. V. Rajendra said that instead of holding Kambala once a year in Pilikula, the District Administration has decided to organise a year-round programme to provide tourists a full image of Kambala sports. He also informed that the Kambala Committee has reacted positively to the plan.
According to the sources, it has been also planned to educate and inform tourists about the sport of Kambala including preparations, buffalo care, and training. This would be a part of the ‘Kalagrama’ exhibit, and an entry fee would be charged to view it.
To attract tourists, it has been suggested that Kambala should be included to the tourism list. The District Tourism Committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner has begun working on this.
