Mangaluru: Former MCC mayor and one of the district Spokespersons of the Congress Mahabala Maarla slammed the BJP government for its ‘fake’ promises during the election campaign and said that the party has failed miserably in rendering qualitative service.

Maarla said that the BJP dominated Zilla Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada has not made use of any funds sanctioned by the earlier UPA government to facilitate drinking water, Shikshana Abhiyana and other developmental work. In addition, the MP and other BJP leaders have been propagating false information to the public through the media.

Drawing a comparison between the administration of the former UPA government and the current NDA government, Maarla said that when the crude oil price stood at 144 USD, the UPA government facilitated petrol to its citizens at Rs 73.16 and diesel at 56.71 per litre. Now, even though the crude oil price has come down to a record 30 USD and has caused the government a profit of over Rs 3 lakh crore, the production cost of petrol is Rs 23.77 and diesel is Rs 24.67 per litre. However as much as Rs 60.48
is being charged for a litre of petrol while diesel is made available for Rs 46 per litre.

The UPA government used to provide gas cylinder at Rs 422 without any cess, however the Modi government increased it to Rs 559 within a year. Also, he has imposed Swacch Bharath Cess and Road Development Cess.

However, Maarla said that the people are smart enough to judge the potential administrators and are going to choose the Congress over the BJP in the upcoming Panchayat polls.
