Mangaluru: Condemning the union government’s work efficiency, Dakshina Kannada Women’s Wing of the Congress will stage a protest near the DC’s office on Monday November 30, at 10.30 am.
Inflation and communal unrest will be among the many issues that will be raised during the protest.
Addressing the media at the Congress office here on Saturday, November 28, District President of the Wing Mamatha Gatty said, “The BJP won the Lok Sabha polls by making a false promise that it would reduce the prices of essential commodities. However, prices have only soared since then. Though the price of crude oil stood at 150 dollars per barrel, the UPA government provided petrol at Rs 71 per litre. The price has reduced to 31 dollars per barrel now; however, the decline in petrol price is meagre.”
“The government is now contemplating to quash the Right to Education Act introduced by the UPA government. This will certainly affect the future of thousands of underprivileged children. The funds sanctioned to the Zilla and Taluk Panchayats under the 13th Financial Planning Commission have been cut off drastically. Subsidies on drinking water, gas have been reduced. The government has invested hundreds of crores on endorsing Swacch Bharath. The Congress government had long back introduced Nirmal Gram Puraskar and hence motivated every village to build toilets in schools and colleges. The Swacch Bharath Abhiyaan is just a gimmick to gobble money,” she said.
Speaking about the frequent communal clashes that are evident in the district, she said, “The BJP supported saffron outfits have been disrupting peace in the society. They have been driving people in name of religion. We are going to fight against this.”
State President of the Wing Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty and other functionaries of the Wing will take part in the protest.
