Mangaluru: State bandh called by Ameer -e- Shariat Maulana Sagheer Ahmed Rashadi against the State High Court’s verdict on the Hijab on Thursday March 17 has received wide spread support by the community in the City.
Most shops including of grocery traders and merchants, complexes and restaurants belonging to Muslims remained shut. While the buses and autorickshaws did not hit the road, some educational institutions and madrassas were given holiday. Further, business activities have come to a standstill at Muslim community-dominated and places in the heart of the City such as Bunder, State Bank Road, and Market Road among others. Muslim-owned offices, workshops, transport companies, and contract firms too have been closed.
However, except for Muslim-run commerci establishments, and institutes rest of the traders and businessmen have kept their businesses open as usual.
Social Democratic Party of India, Muslim Central Committee, Ullal Dargah Committee, Federation of Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Organisations, Women’s India Movement, All India Imams’ Council, Popular Front of India, Campus Front of India, and other organisations have extended their support to the bandh.
