Mangaluru: Following the second incident of sexual assault on a minor girl reported this month from a migrant labourers’ shelter in the outskirts of City, the Mangaluru Police have decided to identify establishments that engage migrant workers and ensure that women and children are protected.

The officials will first make a list of places where labourers stay, then visit and collect information about the owners and the conditions in which they live.

Giving details on the brutal murder, and gang-rape murder of an 8-year-old girl at a tile factory here on Wednesday November 24, Mangaluru Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar said, “We will also hold a discussion with Deputy Commissioner K. V. Rajendra and request him to convene a meeting with all the departments concerned, including Labour, Revenue, Women and Child Development, and Social Welfare to discuss necessary measures to be taken in such shelters.”
