Mangaluru: Karnataka Journalists’ Union, Dakshina Kannada district committee will organise National Press Day on November 24, Tuesday, on Rani Abbakka Queen Cruise (Opp Ayyappa Temple, behind Brahma Babbarya Temple, Bokkapatna, Mangaluru), at 10 pm.
Eight journalists – Richard Lasrado and Lakshman Kunder from Mangaluru, Jayaprakash Kukketi from Sullia, Janardhan S Puriya (Kadaba), UL Uday Kumar (Puttur), RN Poovani Ujire (Belthangady), Raja Bantwal (Bantwal) and Hameed Vittla (Vittal) – will be felicitated on the occasion.
The event will be inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of the Dakshina Kannada district, Dr KV Rajendra.
MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and UT Khader and Karnataka Journalist Union President Narayan will be the chief guests for the occasion. Union DK President Harish Bantwal will preside.
Hampi Kannada University retired professor Dr Chandra Poojari will deliver a talk on “Freedom of Speech and Expression”.
The state executive meet of the union will be held at 3 pm.
