Mangaluru: Former Union Minister M. Veerappa Moily released a book titled ‘Panchayati Rajya Grama Swarajya’ authored by journalist Wilfred D’Souza and published by Bhandary Foundation at a programme held here in the City on Sunday November 28.

After launching the book, Veerappa Moily said, the concept of Panchayat Raj was advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, and was Former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi’s dream too, which he implemented across the country. “Wilfred D’Souza’s commitment is seen the way this book has shaped up. The simple style will help common people understand the concept of Panchayat Raj, he added.

In his keynote address Manjunath Bhandary said that to he has his MPhil and PhD on topics related to Panchayat Raj. With the intention to educate the people’s representatives on Panchayat Raj, I decided to publish this book. After reading the column by Wilfred D’Souza on decentralisation of power, I zeroed in on him to write a book on Panchayat Raj as I found him best suited for the task. Soon I requested him to write a book, and he readily agreed.

Wilfred D’Souza said that working as a journalist and also 14 years of experience at Abdul Nazir Sab State Institute of Rural Development helped me gain knowledge about Panchayat Raj Act. After Kerala, it is our state that has made efforts to effectively implement the essence of decentralisation of power, he added.
