Excise sleuths seize Rs 13 Lakh spiked currency, nab one

Kasaragod: The excise department sleuths seized Rs 13 Lakh worth of spiked currency hidden below the rear seat in a Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus by a passenger on Monday, December 5.
Dhanraj (40), a native of Kasaragod residing in Mumbai was nabbed by the excise sleuths near the check post in Manjeshwar.

In all, 1200 notes of Rs 1000 denomination and 200 notes of Rs 500 denomination of the spiked currency were hidden below the rear seat in a bus heading towards Kasargod from Mangaluru.

Arrested Dhanraj said that the amount seized was earned from the sale of gold.

Excise sleuths transferred the case to Manjeshwar police who are investigating further into the incident.

In the recent past, Rs 20 Lakh was seized by the excise sleuths in addition to Rs 6 Lakh in Kasaragod. Incidents of spiked cash seizure are on the rise in the recent past in Kasaragod area.
