Puttur: As many as four from one family drowned after their car fell into a lake in the wee hours of Monday, on the Mani-Mysuru State Highway.
The deceased are residents of Suntikoppa and the head of the family has been identified as Ashok. His wife and two children too have died in the mishap. They were returning home from Mangaluru when the incident occurred.
The fire personnel have lifted the car out of the lake and the Sampya police have registered a case.
The locals say that Ashok must have dozed off due to which the mishap may have taken place. The lake too had swollen due to heavy rains and further, the lake does not even have barricades on either side, making it a pool of death. Locals say that the lake belongs to a private individual here and despite persistant pleas to install barricades, the owner has been refusing to do so.
