Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences sends forth new graduates

Mangaluru: The first graduation day of the Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS), the new constituent college under the Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) and the 11th Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing (FMCOSH) was held on Wednesday, August 18 at Father Muller Convention centre. The Chief Guest for the graduation ceremony was Prof. Rajesh Shenoy, Director, Padmashree Group of Institutions, Bengaluru.

Hailing from Karkala, Prof. Rajesh Shenoy has made a name of himself in various allied health fields and has been the director of the Padmashree Group of Institutions for the past 25 years and syndicate member of the Rajiv Gandhi Health Sciences University.

Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI, welcomed the gathering reminding the history of the Institution and its stewardship in healthcare education.

Prof. Rajesh Shenoy, Director, Padmashree Group of Institutions, Bengaluru emphasised the need for a uniform curriculum and strong forum for the Allied Health Subjects, currently which is being worked on by the state government. He applauded the students for choosing Father Muller which has projected them in the right trajectory with an efficient faculty and strong infrastructure. He explained three important points that the graduates should remember; Alma mater, updation of knowledge and development of research acumen.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Bishop of Mangalore and the President of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, his Lordship Dr Peter Paul Saldanha who in his presidential address opined that ‘the body though of many parts worked together in unison, so is an institution’.

He quoted St. Irenaeus “The glory of God is the human person fully alive. Glory to god can be given by the living alone and the pandemic has taught us that God’s mercy is alive in his creation. The allied health workers were a part of the frontline during the pandemic and that no physician can carry out his work without the parallel help of the lab reports, radio reports and so forth.”

The Dean of the FMCOAHS Dr Antony Sylvan DSouza and the Principal of the FMCOSH Professor Akhilesh P.M. presented the reports of their colleges highlighting the achievements of the past year and the road map of the year ahead.

The graduation though pompous was kept with a bare minimal crowd of only the graduates in the centre with no family or well-wishers in the venue in light of the heightened Covid protocol as administered by the Government of Karnataka. Live streaming of the event was carried on various channels and YouTube for the benefit of family and friends.

The graduates comprised of the students from M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology, Master of Physiotherapy, Masters in Hospital Administration, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology, B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology, B.Sc. Radiotherapy of FMCOAHS and Bachelor in Audiology Speech and Language Pathology of FMCOSH.

The honours given to the students of the FMCOAHS are the Late    Fr.   Lawrence V. M.  Fernandes memorial prize for securing the highest marks (overall) in BPT and Fr.  Ignatius   D’souza award for securing the highest marks in physiotherapy subjects to Dsouza Rochelle Peter.

Eden Naomi Rosario of the first year, Mendonca Janice Melwyn of the second year, Aarol Carmelita Dsouza of the third year and Grace Maria Joseph of final year bagged the highest marks secured in the BPT University examination held in   March 2021.

Priyanka Kumari of the first year, Michelle Valenteena Rodrigues of the second year and Pushpa Kumari of the final year were awarded the highest marks in the BSc Medical Laboratory Technology University examination held in December 2020.

The highest marks secured in the BSc Medical Imaging Technology University examination held in December 2020 was awarded to Anupama Roy of the first year, Dani N. Jijo of the second year and Lavina DSouza of the final year.
Melisha Roshal DSouza also secured the highest marks in the second-year University examination held in September 2019.

Mclyn George Lewis of the second year was awarded the Highest marks secured in the BSc Radiotherapy Technology University examination held in December 2020.

The prize sponsored by Wilson D’sa in memory of the Late Salvadore D’sa, Kallianpur for securing the highest aggregate marks in the 3rd and 4th-semester masters in Hospital Administration University examination held in December 2020 and January 2021 was awarded to Sr. Ligy Johny P. Jaseel M. J.  bagged the Jaseel M.J. bagged the highest mark in the final year Master of Physiotherapy University examination held in December 2020.
Lia Maria of first-year and Sujitha P of final years secured the highest marks secured in M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology University examination held in December 2020.

The students who have secured Overall Ranks in PG Allied courses in the University examinations held by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru during the year 2020 are Sr. Ligy Johny P, M.H.A, with 1st Rank, Rosina V.N.M.H.A, with 4th Rank, Gladlin Gloria Fernandes, M.H.A, with 6th Rank, Pinto Riya Dian Ronald, M.H.A, with 9th Rank, Pavithra D. L, M.Sc. MLT, 4th Rank and Livya Wilson A,  M.Sc, MLT, with 5th Rank.
Under the UG Allied courses, Josna Flavia D Almeida, B.Sc., RT bagged 2nd Rank, Archana, B.Sc., RT secured 6th Rank, Renisha Divina Dsouza, B.Sc., MIT, got 8th Rank and Tojin John, B.Sc., MIT, 9th Rank.
Honours to the students of the Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing are was also awarded during the ceremony.

The highest marks secured in the 1st and 2nd semester in University Examination held In December 2019 /May 2020 was awarded to Gonsalves Svetlana Marie Terence.
Kesiya Elsa Varghese bagged the highest marks secured in the 3rd and 4th semesters in University    Examination held in December 2019 /May 2020.
Adline Princita Dsouza got the award for the highest marks secured in 5th and 6th semester in University Examination held in December 2019/May 2020:
The Best outgoing student from the Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences was declared Melisha Roshal D Souza. The Late John   Linu   Varghese memorial prize for the best outgoing graduate of BPT (bachelor of physiotherapy) was awarded to Dsouza Rochelle Peter and from the Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing to Adline Princita Dsouza.

Oath for the College of Allied Health Science graduates was administered by the Dean Dr Antony Sylvan DSouza and for the Physiotherapy graduates by Prof. Cherishma DSilva, Professor and HOD of Physiotherapy while for the graduates of the Speech and Hearing was given by Principal Dr Akhilesh P.M.

Invocation during the ceremony was rendered by the students of FMCOSH. Heads of departments and dignitaries were present for the event. A ceremonial Thanksgiving Mass was held in the morning by the Director FMCI, thanking God for His abundance on the grandaunts and for blessing the Institution with grace to carry its mission of ‘Heal and Comfort’ for all humanity for many more years to come.
