Mangaluru: On Saturday December 11, the first compressed natural gas (CNG) bus began its service in the Karavali Coast.
The Tata bus is currently running between Uppinangady and Mangaluru.
According to sources, the bus costs around Rs. 30 lakh, including registration fees, which is roughly Rs. 3.5 lakh more than the diesel version.
According to the manufacturer, a CNG-based bus gets more mileage than a diesel. Furthermore, CNG is believed to be a cleaner and less expensive alternative to petrol and diesel, both of which cause pollution.
The bus is equipped with an 80-kilogram fuel tank. However, the operators have expressed concern about filling the gas tanks.
