Mangaluru: Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the sophisticated Jeppu Fish Market building built at a cost of Rs 92.50 lakh in the Jeppu market premises on Monday, October 19.
The two-storeyed building has been funded by National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad and Fisheries Department, Karnataka.
Speaking on the occasion, Sorake informed that the fish market in Jeppu was one of the many developmental plans the government had charted for Mangaluru. He said that a series of similar markets will be setup in Kadri, Kankanady, Urwa Store, Central Market and Surathkal and the projects will be funded by Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation.
Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo informed that the traditional markets in Alake, Jyoti and Bikarnakatte will have a facelift at a cost of Rs 2.50 crore through the Karnataka Development Authority.
“Various developmental projects have been initiated by the government, keeping the future in mind. The entire view of Mangaluru will be changed for good in the next couple of years,” he added.
