Mangaluru: The third additional district and sessions court on Wednesday, November 25, convicted five accused in the 2009 advocate Naushad Kashimji murder case.

The convicts are Dinesh Shetty from Beltangady, Ritesh and Ganesh from Kodikal, Pratap Shetty from Kavoor and Subrahmanya from Kadri. Two other accused Shivprakash and Ravi Shukwani were acquitted.

It may be recalled that Naushad had appeared in the court representing Rashid Malbari, a close associate of India’s most dangerous and wanted don, Dawood Ibrahim. He was shot dead near his residence in Falnir on April 9, 2009.

The quantum of punishment is likely to be pronounced on Thursday, November 26. The five accused were convicted under IPC sections 302, 201, 120 B, 34, and under Arms Acts sections 3, 25 and 27. Judge Pushpanjali Devi pronounced the verdict.
