Mangalore: A delegation of Konkani Writers Forum, Karnataka, met Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo and requested him to urge the government to consider only writers of repute for the post of the President and members of the Konkani Sahitya Academy.

The delegation comprised of Henry Mendonca (HM Pernal), Editor of Kittall.com and President of the Forum and Marcel D’Souza, its General Secretary. The Konkani Writers Forum is the only registered body of Konkani writers in the state of Karnataka for the past 19 years, having more than 120 members.

The delegation pointed out to the MLA that since several years writers are being sidelined in the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and termed this as injustice to the entire writers’ fraternity.

To put an end to the injustices to the writers fraternity, the Forum urged MLA Lobo to request the government to consider eminent writers who have contributed significantly to the literary field and can devote time to the Academy, while nominating to the Academy.  It also requested at least two memberships to the Forum and to fund literary programmes conducted by the Forum, through the Academy.

MLA Lobo has assured to look into the matter on a priority basis and ensure justice to Konkani writers and also their due share in the Konkani Academy.
