Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyas Kamath on Saturday December 17 laid the foundation stone for the construction of jetty at Bengre to anchor traditional boats. With this, the long-pending demand of the fishermen undertaking traditional fishing has been fulfilled.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA said that “When the jetty is complete, as many as 150 traditional boats can be anchored at the same time. There is also a plan to take up dredging at 2-metre depth, which will facilitate the berthing of the traditional boats.
The construction of the jetty will be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs 3.37 Crore. Now, the traditional fishermen who are using gill nets can anchor their boats without any struggle with a full-fledged jetty.
The work will be implemented under Nabard Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (NRIDF).
