Mangaluru: In yet another breakthrough in the murder case of Bajrang Dal activist Prashanth Poojary, four more accused, who had been absconding until now, have been arrested.
The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Sharif (42), Mustafa Kavoor (28), Mohammed Mustafa (25) and Kabeer (28).
Addressing a press meet in the city, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan informed that one of the prime accused is still absconding and that efforts to nab him are on.
Murugan further stated that Prashanth’s indulgence in illegal cow slaughter and past communal riots are said to be the main reasons behind the murder, as revealed by the arrested.
Four of the other accused in the murder, were arrested earlier this week. The arrested were Mohammed Hanif (36), a resident of Adyapady, Mohammed Ilyas (27), a resident of Moodbidri, Ibrahim Liyaqat (26) of Bantwal, and Abdul Rashid (39) of Mulky.
The Commissioner once again urged people to refrain from giving it a communal angle and that a section of people involved in spreading such rumours will be nabbed and subjected to stringent punishment.
Prashanth Poojary, a flower vendor and rightwing activist was murdered on October 9 while he was carrying flowers to his shop at around 7 am.
